It could be an exciting couple of months for gamblers across the USA, as two major news stories broke this week. First up was the delicious news that the major UK and Irish bookmaker, Paddy Power could be making their way to US shores, with an eager eye on the fantasy sports betting market. At the same time, closer to home, a new tribal casino has been announced in California. Naturally, both stories deserve a closer look.
Paddy Power Enters the US Market
Over in the UK and Ireland, Paddy Power is a household name. Renowned for their sportsbook and casino, as well as their humorous advertisements, Paddy Power is a force to be reckoned with. According to an Irish Independent newspaper report, Paddy Power could be set to launch a “virtual stock market”, known as the American SportZ Exchange, which will focus on fantasy sports betting for Americans.
The popularity of DraftKings, FanDuel and rival enterprises will no doubt have spurred on the bookmaker to have a crack at the industry. ASX.ai (the name of the business) is currently looking for exclusive partnerships with American broadcasters and professional sports teams and additional investment to get the project off the ground. Thus far, though, Paddy Power’s American dream is still some way off going live.
New Tribal Casino Expected in California
While Paddy Power’s project may be years from fruition and a pipe dream to some, over in California, there is something happening and fast. The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians is about to break ground on a brand-new tribal casino. Despite the best efforts from the United Auburn Indian Community of the Auburn Rancheria to have the project terminated, the California State Supreme Court sided with the Mono Indians.
There seems to be quite some history between the two groups, with the latter the founder of the Thunder Valley Casino Resort. According to the Mono Indian Tribe, the new casino is set to span 305 acres north of Madera. It will be run by Station Casinos, a part of the Red Rock Resorts group. Costing anything from $350 up to $400 million, the casino will also include a two-hundred room hotel, some 2,000 slot machines and over forty table games, including baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette, and numerous table poker games. The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians tribe expects to begin construction on the new venue later this week.
